I signed up to become a member at Contena, and after some back-and-forth emails, they hit me with a bunch of questions about my goals. They wanted me to share my past experiences and what I aimed to write—basically, I had to fill out around seven questions that I had already covered in my first application. Honestly, it would’ve taken me nearly an hour to make it worthwhile. I shot an email back asking for more details before I wasted my time on this, particularly if it was a paid service. She replied with two links, one of which led to a FAQ confirming that yes, Contena is a paid membership. If I hadn’t asked, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have found that out, and I would’ve ended up wasting my time. In any case, I decided not to proceed with the application. Less than 24 hours later, guess what? I got approved for Contena's VIP membership, which is supposedly hard to get into and by invitation only, without doing anything at all. This feels like a scam. Save your time and check out Upwork if you’re just starting out, or give FreeUP a shot if you’re a bit more experienced. Both platforms are free to use but take a small cut from each project you get paid for.

I attempted to register with them at no cost. Another site claimed it was free. As a Freelance Writer, I was shocked when they told me today that I needed to cough up cash for a membership. Total nonsense. Keep your distance from these thieves!

This is a total rip-off. They only send out phony automated messages acting like they’ll help you find clients. After that, they hit you with a membership form to take your cash. There are way too many of these scams floating around these days.

I forked out a hefty sum to sign up for Contena. I gotta admit, their pitch about coaching and getting you set up as a freelancer really got to me - they sure know how to sell it.

When I found out I had cancer, I reached out to see if I could pause my membership until I was back on my feet. Not a single word of support came my way, not even a hint of compassion. I even tried contacting the founder on LinkedIn, but got ignored there as well.

At this point, I’ve shelled out cash for absolutely nothing and have gotten zero assistance.

Plus, it looks like there are a bunch of sponsored “reviews” from chosen users everywhere. I wouldn’t recommend Contena to anyone, no way.

What’s the deal with this membership waiting list? Seems like just a way to collect your email for marketing and your phone number for who knows what else.

Is this business for real? They wanted me to set up an account, and then told me I was on a waiting list. I gotta wait to get to the writing gigs they say they have? What if they're just collecting my details (like name, address, and all that) to sell to others?
